Jefferson County Public Library Cooperative

The Jefferson County Public Library Cooperative is a group of 39 Jefferson County Libraries providing library service to the citizens of Jefferson County. Our Warrior - Evelyn Thornton Public Library is a member of the Cooperative.

Alabama Virtual Library

The Alabama Virtual Library is a group of online databases that have magazine, journal, and newspaper articles for research. It also has almanacs, maps, encyclopedias and dictionaries. You may access it from home or your library. When accessing it from home, you will need an AVL card, which your child may obtain from me here at school, or your local library.

Scholastic

Scholastic is a children’s book and media company which provides educational support to parents, teachers and librarians. Their site includes a parents page with many helps and activities intended for children from birth through middle school. You may sign up for their newsletter and purchase products from their web site.

Reading Rockets

Strategies to help kids who struggle with reading. Reading Rockets produces award-winning PBS television programs about reading and education. You can watch the shows when they are broadcast by your public television station.

Helping Your Child by the U.S. Department of Education

The Helping Your Child publication series aims to provide parents with the tools and information necessary to help their children succeed in school and life. These booklets feature practical lessons and activities to help their school aged and preschool children master reading, understand the value of homework and develop the skills and values necessary to achieve and grow.
